About the WNY E- Bike Rebate Pilot Program
Shared Mobility Inc., the Buffalo based nonprofit organization that operates Reddy Bikeshare, is launching New York State’s first-ever E-Bike Rebate pilot program with support from Independent Health and Ford Philanthropy. This groundbreaking initiative will provide qualifying low-income residents with rebates covering $650 off of the cost of an e-bike at participating local bike shops.
Building on years of our E-Bike Library research, the development of our WNY E-Bike Library Network and Reddy Bikeshare’s experience providing affordable access to standard and pedal-assist e-bikes, we’re taking our mission a step further in 2025.
This year, we’re piloting an e-bike rebate program to help residents afford their own e-bike while also providing essential resources for a safe and seamless riding experience. In addition to a $650 voucher towards an e-bike from a local retailer, the program will offer participants exclusive access to E-Bike Safety Workshops hosted by GObike Buffalo, a $100 voucher for bike safety equipment like a lock or helmet, and the opportunity to receive a free adaptive e-bike for one deserving rider with unique mobility needs. Independent Health’s Extra cardholders can also use their benefits to receive an additional discount on their purchase at participating vendors.
Those who are qualified but not selected for the rebate can still join the e-bike movement through a free Reddy Bikeshare membership, ensuring sustainable transportation remains accessible to as many people as possible. Through this initiative, we’re making e-bike ownership more attainable while equipping riders with the knowledge and tools they need to ride confidently and safely.
